There is one question that will never be answered: Could Dick Errico have become AU's first entry in the Olympic Games? He won his weight division at the Eastern Olympic wrestling trials in 1960 at Dartmouth. He was injured in the first match of the finals at Ames, Iowa. A doctor disqualified him.
Errico had one of the most outstanding careers of any wrestler in AU history. He lost only four times, once each season, and in two of the defeats he was forced to retire due to injury.
He finished second on year and third in the classic 4-I tournament in Cleveland, OH. Errico was in the military for two years and made the All-Army wrestling team. He coached the Rockland Community College and AU wrestling teams.
Since 1971, he has been a social studies teacher and wrestling coach at Maple Grove High School in Bemus Point, NY. His 13-year coaching record is 153-37-2.
A native of Suffern, NY, Errico won two sectional wrestling titles in high school. He set records for the fastest pin in semifinals (43 seconds) and fastest in finals (45 seconds).
Dick and his wife, Dina, have three children: Bryan, Deanna and Suzanne.
