Won varsity letters at Alfred University in football, track & field and wrestling. Football captain in 1930 when Saxons had first winning season in 10 years. Returned intercepted pass 60 yards for winning touchdown against Edinboro when AU ended 18-game losing streak. Played on National Championship high school football team in Lock Haven, PA.
