One man said it this way: if you are talking about defensive ends of Alfred University football, the name of Chris Rodger must be included somewhere.Â
Born in Barbertown, OH, Rodger played high school football at Canton Glenwood High School.
He doubled as an offensive guard and defensive end for AU's undefeated freshman team of 1964.Â
On the varsity team, Rodger was defensive end. He served as center on punts, field goals and extra points. Rodger was named All-Conference in his junior and senior years. He also was selected on ECAC weekly all-star teams.
Chris was also a member of AU's first lacrosse team as a midfielder and defensemen. He was assistant coach from 1968-69 and 1972-73.
Following graduation from AU, Chris served as tactical ground control officer at a NATO missile site in Germany. Returning to his country, he operated a restaurant in Chapel Hill, NC earning his Master's degree at Duke University. Rodger moved to Arlington, VA where he teaches earth science and is coach of football.
Rodger gained exactly five pounds from 190 to 195 since his playing days at AU.Â
He is married to Deborah Walker '72. They have two children, Evan and Karl.
