Laura was a four-year member of the AU women’s swimming and diving team. She competed three times in diving events at the NCAA championship meet: in 1983, 1984 and 1985. In 1985 she was the New York State champion in 1-meter diving and was also a First Team UNYSCSA All-Conference diver.

She set several AU women’s diving records during her Saxon career, and still holds the school mark for the 1-meter championship event (11 dives) with 407.20 points. She is a former school record-holder in 3-meter diving (six dives); 3-meter championship diving (11 dives); and 1-meter diving (six dives).
