David Conklin was a four-year standout for the men's basketball team under head coach Ron Frederes from 1978-1982. He stands ninth on the Saxons all-time scoring list with 1,310 career points and 17th in rebounds with 486.

The 6-1 forward had his finest season as a sophomore, scoring 441 points and grabbing 149 rebounds. A clutch player, Conklin helped the Saxons rally from nine points down to a 76-71 victory over Ithaca during the 1979-80 season by hitting four consecutive free throws in the final 10 seconds of play. He, along with Hall of Famers Bill Byrne '83 and Davis Smith '81, were the first trio of Saxons to score at least 400 points in the same season.

Conklin's biggest thrill as an athlete at AU came during the 1980-81 campaign when the Saxons defeated a potent St. Lawrence team 69-56 in front of a large, loud crowd at the McLane center. The Saxons went 20-7 that season, becoming the first AU men's basketball team to reach the 20-win plateau.

A native of Canandaigua, N.Y., Conklin graduated from Bloomfield Central School where he played both basketball and soccer. He earned both his bachelor's degree in marketing and management and his master's degree in college student development from AU.
