Hall of Fame
Such is the legacy of current men's track & field coach Cliff DuBreuil that he joins only three other AU Hall of Fame members that are not AU graduates. Furthermore, those three read like a Who's Who of Alfred University Athletics: James A. McLane, Alex Yunevich and Johnny Nelson.Â
DeBreuil is the senior member of the Alfred University athletic staff, having come to AU form Indiana University in 1957. Although he prefers not to talk about his own athletic accomplishments, "Coach" was an outstanding student-athlete at Carl Schurz High School in Chicago who went on to letter in football and track & field at Indiana University.
Since joining the AU staff in 1957, DuBreuil has worn many hats, that of athletic trainer, instructor in physical education, long-time assistant coach to legendary football coach Alex Yunevich and most notably, the men's and women's track & field coach.
The Chicago native was the President of the NCAA Division III Track & Field Coaches Association for two years (1979-80) and since taking over in 1962 as track & field coach has seen his Saxons win 79% of its competition. DuBreuil also served as President of the New York State Collegiate Track & Field Association in 1967, 1972, 1973, 1978 and 1980.
DuBreuil, who has been married for 40 years to the former Phyllis Jean McRoberts and has three children, lists his biggest thrill as AU as ending the track & field winning streaks of the University of Rochester and RIT.
