Chris Tighe was a four-year starter for the Saxons from 1984-88, playing on some of the best teams in the long and storied history of the men’s basketball program.

He played for the 1984-85 squad that earned the team’s first-ever berth in the NCAA championship tournament and the 1985-86 team that went 25-3, again qualifying for the NCAA playoffs. The 25 victories in 1985-86 represent a school single-season record.

In 1986-87, AU made its third straight postseason appearance, qualifying for the ECAC Upstate Championships. And the Saxons may have played in the postseason each of Tighe’s four years in a Saxon uniform, had he not gone down with a season-ending injury 10 games into his senior year, with AU sporting a 7-3 record at the time.

In his four years at AU, the Saxons went 73-37, with the 73 wins representing the most for any four-year class in team history.

Tighe ranks in the top 25 in career scoring (909 points, 22nd) and rebounding (618, 12th) at AU. At the time of his graduation, he ranked 10th and ninth, respectively, in career scoring and rebounding.

He graduated from Alfred in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a State Farm insurance agent with offices in West Palm Beach, FL.

Tighe and his wife, Laura, live in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, with their three children: daughters Madeline and Grace and son Christopher III.
