Peter Ryan was a four-year member of the men's basketball team from 67-70. He made an instant impact on the freshman team, setting a scoring record (450) in the 1966-67 season, a record that still stands. As a sophomore, he led the team to an ICAC title in the 67-68 season, being named to the All-ICAC team and the league's Most Outstanding Player. He took a leadership role as a junior and senior, earning captain status. He would then lead the team in both scoring and assists in both seasons, finishing his career with three All-Tournament selections. Named winner of the "Senior Sports Award" in 1970 and appeared in the 1970 edition of "Outstanding College Athletes of America" by the Outstanding Americans Foundation. Ryan finished his career with 940 points - third on the all-time scoring list at the time.
Off the court, Ryan was a member of the Blue Key National Honors fraternity from 1968-70, a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity from 1967-70, and was a member of the campus' judiciary board from 1968-70. In 1969, he served as president of both the Blue Key and Delta Sigma Phi fraternities, while also serving as the judiciary board's Chief Justice.
