There is this testimonial from legendary coach, Alex Yunevich, when talking about Joe Fasano: "He was one of the best ends I even had at AU. He could have played in Division I."
After a year on the freshman team, Fasano played three seasons (1951-53) during which period the Saxons were 17-2-2 with one undefeated season.
Two super moments stand out. As a sophomore, he blocked a kick for touchdown to open the scoring in AU's memorable 47-5 rout of highly favored St. Lawrence team.
The next season, also against St. Lawrence, he broke into the St. Lawrence back field and took a handoff from the quarterback to run for a touchdown. Fasano twice earned Honorable Mention Little All-America.
Fasano is a native of Port Washington, NY, where he captained baseball, basketball and football teams. He was named to the News Day All-Scholastic Team.
Fasano is a retired Lt. Col. in the U.S. Marine Corps after 28 years of service. He was Alumni Director for 10 years at AU and is a past president of the Alfred Lions Club.
He has owned and operated two businesses. Presently he is employed as sales and marketing manager of Adv. Refactory Technologies, Inc. Fasano has a Master's degree from AU.
Joe and his wife (Ann '53) have two children - Patrick '80 and Kathryn.
