ALFRED, NY – Alfred University women's basketball guard
Jaidyn Chest (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) was selected to the All-Empire 8 Second Team for the second consecutive year on Thursday.
The junior was the leading scorer for the Saxons, averaging 16.7 points per game. Notably, Chest scored in double figures in 22 of 26 games, including seven with 20 or more points. Building on this consistency, she broke two program scoring records. Chest set the single-game record with 38 points during AU's 78-76 overtime thriller over Utica University on Saturday, January 10. Later in the year, she capped her season by breaking a 40-year single-season record with 434 points. Chest surpassed the previous record of 420, which was set by
Heidi Aldous '87 during the 1985-86 season.
Chest led the E8 in 3-point field goals made with 57. Her scoring average and free throws made (83) were ranked third in the league.
In addition to her scoring numbers, Chest was second on the team with 64 assists and 40 steals.
She was named the E8 Co-Player of the Week four times. Her fourth accolade tied the program's school record of six overall weekly honors that was set during the 2019-20 season.
"
Jaidyn [Chest] had such an impressive year when you look at it," Head Coach
Mike Moskowitz said. "She was our point guard, played more minutes than we've ever asked anyone to play, almost always guarded the other team's best player and still put up the numbers she did. To finish third in the conference in scoring is impressive, but to be 16th in the conference in field goal percentage at only 5'4, seventh in free throw percentage and 10th in 3-point field goal percentage is a testament to the work she puts in. We're really proud of her for achieving this great honor."
Briana Dorr (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was named to the E8 Tomorrow's Leaders Team. This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they "compete with honor and integrity" and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
"
Briana [Dorr] comes in ready to work every single day and has greatly improved in her time here," Coach Moskowitz said. "She plays the game the right way and leaves it all out there when she plays. She really evolved as a leader this year and helped this team greatly through her work on and off the court."
