ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) was named the Empire 8 Women's Track & Field, Field Athlete of the Week on Monday, becoming just the fourth Saxon in history to have earned nine or more honors.
Spila now has eight E8 Weekly Awards honors for women's track & field with one Empire 8 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week selection, totaling nine in her career. She is now tied with
Miasia Hillman '15 who also had eight honors through the Empire 8. Overall, Spila surpassed former teammate,
Ana Ion '23, men's track & field's
Seth Spicer '18, Hillman and football's
Jesse Raynor '03 who all had eight total honors. She is now tied for second all-time with men's lacrosse's
Scott Kimiecik '23 and men's basketball's
Brewster Marshall '23.
Spila broke her own school record in the heptathlon on Friday when she established herself as the 13
th best multi in Division III so far this season, totaling 4,341 points at Susquehanna University where she finished third overall. She hit a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 10.24m (33'-7.25") while almost hitting a PR in the javelin with a throw of 31.09m (102'-0"). Spila's 100-meter hurdle time of 15.50 earned her highest scoring event total with 777 points.
Spila was named a Saxon of the Week on Monday as well, being joined by softball's
Jessica Remm (Carmel, IN/Carmel).
