ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) was named the Empire 8 Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday.
She now has eight lifetime Empire 8 Weekly Honors (seven track & field honors and one women's basketball honor). Spila joins former teammate
Ana Ion '23 as well as Saxon legends like
Seth Spicer '18,
Miasia Hillman '15 and
Jesse Raynor '03 as Alfred University student-athletes who have earned eight Empire 8 Weekly Awards.
Spila earned her first two top-three performances of the outdoor season during the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday. She placed second at 16.79 in the 100-meter hurdles. Spila earned third in the 100-meter dash at 13.31. She closed out her evening as the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay, joining
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac),
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville) and
Natalya Ryckman (New Eagle, PA/Ringgold) to clock a time of 4:29.13, finishing second ahead of Roberts Wesleyan's team.
Spila was joined in the weekly listings by
Khamani Hunter Sr (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) as the Men's Track Athlete of the Week,
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA/Springfield Township) as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week and
