2025 Alfred University Baseball Season Preview

ALFRED, NY – Following their first season as a varsity program, the Alfred University baseball team is hoping to build from their experience ahead of the 2025 campaign. The Saxons will welcome back 15 returners to go with a mix of newcomers.

Alfred University will be led by Head Coach Brian Kehew, who is entering his second season with the program.

"I think last year was a good place to start," Kehew said. "We got some experience for our student-athletes and put our name out there. The future of the Saxon Hill Sports Complex has certainly helped with recruiting, and we're grateful to have the administration committing to our program."

The Saxons picked up their first victory as a varsity program against Martin Luther College as part of their Spring Break trip in Florida last year.  As part of the win, nine different Saxons recorded a base hit. With a growing roster, Kehew and the Saxons are looking forward to upcoming competition.

"We focused on recruiting a group of student-athletes that were ready to compete right away," Kehew said. "They have the mentality and work ethic that can help us."
Among the returners, Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) and Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) will look to build upon their successful 2024 seasons. Brought was named to the All-Empire 8 Third Team after leading the team in hits (28), doubles (9), total bases (37), and batting average (.283). Pridmore is entering his junior season, recording a .274 batting average that included five doubles and a triple last spring.

"Cam and Nolan are two of our reliable bats that we expect to see in the middle of the lineup," Kehew said. "They will continue to grow, and we're excited to see what they can bring this season."
Alfred University is eager for the return of both Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) and Ashton Goring (Brampton, ON, Canada/Cardinal Ambrozic Secondary) among others on the mound this season.

"Having Alex and Ashton back will be a big boost for our team," Kehew said. "Both of them have looked great this offseason and will look to make an immediate impact."

The Saxons have brought in multiple newcomers to their 2025 roster, with Brayden Bedingfield (Seabrook, TX/Clear Falls), Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence), Keith Mintschenko (West Grove, PA/Avon Grove), Will Timpano (Orillia, ON, Canada/Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) and Derek Vlietstra (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley) being just a few of the names competing for AU this spring.

"At this moment, we have a lot of players that are doing well and will see playing time in Florida," Kehew said. "It's always a good thing to have competition and we believe competing during the Spring Break will be helpful. We will look to improve defensively and have a lot of excitement for the upcoming season."

Alfred University will begin their 2025 season against Hilbert College on March 1, with designated home games set to take place at Houghton University this year with the construction of the Saxon Hill Sports Complex underway. The Saxons will compete in 10 games in Florida as part of their Spring Break trip from March 8-16. AU will open Empire 8 competition on March 21 versus Houghton. The Empire 8 Championship Tournament is set to begin on May 6.
