ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University baseball team obtained their first-ever win at Saxon Hill and their first walk-off win in program history Saturday afternoon in a split doubleheader against Keuka College.
The Saxons took the first game in walk-off fashion by a score of 8-7 and lost in the second leg 11-1.
"It was a very fun game. Our guys battled from the first pitch to the last," Head Coach
Brian Kehew said." There were so many great moments featuring our senior players. I'm extremely proud of them for leading the team to our first win at our Saxon Hill home."
Game One
Alfred University - 8 | Keuka College - 7
Michael Calogero (Henrietta, NY / Aquinas Institute) got the start in game one, pitching 6.0 innings, only allowing four runs.
Jack Grider (Stafford, VA / Brooke Point) and
TJ Pappas (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) made relief appearances for Alfred University, with Pappas being awarded the win.
The Saxons got the scoring started, putting across two runs in the second inning. Following a single by
Nick Yorlano (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills), a hit by pitch, and a
Brayden Bedingfield (Seabrook, TX / Clear Falls) walk,
Sam Brocklebank (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield) took one for the team to bring Yorlano across home plate, and
Angelo DeFilippis (Staten Island, NY / Moore Catholic) scored on a fielder's choice.
Later in the seventh inning, with a two-run deficit,
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA / Wellsboro Area) bashed a two-run double into the left-center field gap to tie the game at four. Alfred University wasn't done there, picking up another run and taking the lead following a
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada / Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) single that scored Brought from second.
The Wolves took a two-run lead in the ninth, but the Saxons answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. After Brought smashed his second double of the game,
Michael Ciardiello (Rutherford, NJ / Moore Catholic) sent a rocket over the right fielder's head to bring Brought home. Yorlano then singled, DeFelippis was hit by a pitch, and
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY / Orchard Park) drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at seven. Broncklebank then stepped to the plate and sent a sacrifice fly to center field, giving Alfred University their first win at Galanis Stadium and their first walk-off victory in program history.
Game Two

In the first inning,
Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY / Middleburgh) launched a rocket over the left field fence, marking the second Alfred University home run at Galanis Stadium.
