BROCKPORT, NY - The Alfred University baseball team took on Brockport University for an Empire 8 doubleheader matchup and lost both contests Friday afternoon.
The Saxons dropped the first game 25-5 and lost the second leg 24-0.
Game One
Alfred University - 5 | Brockport University - 25
The Saxons got the game's scoring started after
Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY /Â Middleburgh) walked and later scored on an error in the first inning.
Later, in the fifth,
Nick Yorlano (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) singled to left and scored following an
Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY / Edison) double. Colunio then scored on an error, increasing Alfred University's run total to three.
The Saxons picked up their final two runs in the seventh inning. After Yorlano walked and Colunio singled,
Zach Russell (Purling, NY / Cairo-Durham) sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Yorlano from third. Colunio then scored on a wild pitch, tacking on another run in the inning.
Alfred University's offensive efforts weren't enough as they would go on to fall to the Golden Eagles in game one.
Game Two
Alfred University - 0 | Brockport University - 24
Alex Duske (Melbourne, Australia / Ivanhoe Grammar School) got the start on the mound for the Saxons in game two, pitching 3.0 innings.
Luke Rogoff (Cortland, NY / Cortland),
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY / Orchard Park), and
Axton Paul (Wolcott, NY / North Rose-Wolcott) all made relief appearances in the outing.
Colunio, Yorlano, and
Angelo DeFilippis (Staten Island, NY / Moore Catholic) all tallied a hit in the second leg for Alfred University.
The efforts by the Saxons weren't enough as they would fall to Brockport University in game two.
Alfred University is back in action on Sunday, when they will take on the Golden Eagles for the final game of the series. The first pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
