ALFRED, NY – Five members of the Alfred University women's tennis team were named to the Empire 8 All-Conference Team on Tuesday.
 
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Education Complex #143) was selected to the All-E8 First Team in singles for the third time in her career. She went 8-6 at No. 1 with 4-3 in conference matches. Zabihailo currently has 32 singles victories in her career.
 
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and 
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) both earned spots on the All-E8 Third Team in singles. Eppings earns her second conference accolade of her career, while Madsen receives her third. Epping was second for the Saxons in singles with a 10-5 overall record and 4-3 in conference. She registered a 7-3 record while playing at the No. 4 position. Madsen went 7-7 overall on the season with 4-2 in E8 play. She shone at the No. 2 position for singles with a 7-5 record.
 
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) and 
Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) were named to the All-E8 Third Team in doubles. This is Windisch's second conference honor and Gits' first. The pair led AU with an 8-3 overall record this season. Windisch and Gits earned two hard-fought victories in the team's wins against SUNY Brockport (Sept. 27) and Nazareth (Oct. 3). They dominated at No. 3 doubles with a 7-3 record and won five of their last seven matches of the season.
 
In addition, Windisch was selected for the E8 Tomorrow's Leaders Team. This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they "compete with honor and integrity" and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

Jake Fisler said. "This is a testament to the process and the work that this group has put in. It was only a matter of time for the results to accurately reflect that. Huge congratulations to the players and I can't wait to see what the future has in store."
