Saxons Cruise to 7-0 Victory Against the Barons

Box Score HILTON HEAD, SC — The Alfred University women's tennis team pulled out a 7-0 victory over Franciscan University on Thursday.

"With wind gusts upwards of 30 mph, this was a great result against a feisty team," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Proud of this group and their ability to focus on the task at hand and continue sticking to the plan."

Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) and Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) won, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles. Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) and Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) lost at No. 1 by two points, 6-4. However, a forfeit by the Barons (10-7, 6-2 PAC) at No. 3 gave Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and Anastasia Shaw (Orange County, NY/Washingtonville) the win, earning the doubles point for the Saxons (14-5, 5-3 Empire 8).

In singles, AU won all six matches with two of them being forfeits. Zabihailo garnered her 35th career victory at No. 1 by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Seegert and Epping each won one of their sets by a narrow margin of 6-4 during action at No. 2 and 3.

The Saxons wrap up spring break with one final match against Muhlenberg College on Friday at 4:00 PM.
