HILTON HEAD, SC – The Alfred University women's tennis team ended its spring break trip with a 5-2 loss to Muhlenberg College on Friday.
"This was a solid team and it was great competition," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Every match was competitive and the ladies were pushing themselves to the limit on the court. Huge shoutout to senior Alina [Zabihailo] for tying the all-time doubles win record. So proud of our seniors and their investment in the future success of the program."
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and
Anastasia Shaw (Orange County, NY/Washingtonville) earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the Saxons (14-6, 5-3 Empire 8). Epping later came out victorious in No. 3 singles, defeating her opponent from the Mules (4-1, 0-0 Centennial) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Building on that momentum,
Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) registered another singles win at No. 6, winning by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) closed out her collegiate career in this match. She and her partner
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas), fell by two in No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Zabihailo continued to compete fiercely in singles, pushing her opponent to three sets and winning the second set, 6-3. The senior finishes her career as the all-time leader in career doubles wins, a milestone she reached in AU's victory against Curry College on Wednesday.
The Saxons will return to action at the start of the fall 2026.
