ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team competed Wednesday night against SUNY Geneseo. A tough 200-78 loss was in the cards for the Saxons. But, there was plenty to take away from the dual meet.
"At this point in the season, with our training intensity and volume, it is hard to get the body to respond the way the brain wants it to," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "I thought our student-athletes performed really well tonight."
Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) led the way, winning three races. Her win in the 100-yard backstroke was the most memorable.
With a time of 1:00.52, it broke a pool record held by Chrissy Behr '15 MS '18 (1:00.60) for a decade. Her other two wins came in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.08) and the 100-fly (1:01.71).
Two second and third place finishers also wrapped up the points for the Saxons. Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 56.02. She was followed up by Liv Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:39.50.
The final podium positions came from Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) and Alexandra Simmons (Danbury, CT/Danbury). Anderegg was third in the 100-breaststroke at 1:15.76, while Simmons came in the same position in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming out a time of 5:55.64.
One final regular season meet lies ahead for the Saxons on Saturday, where they will celebrate three graduating seniors. It comes against Hartwick College, starting at 1:00 p.m.
