WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team finished up the first day of competition at the four-day Empire 8 Championship on Wednesday evening at the Webster Aquatic Center.
The Saxons placed fifth as a team with 46 points.
Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) was the first swimmer for AU in the finals, placing fifth in 500-yard freestyle B-finals, posting a time of 5:42.95 to earn four points. In the 200-yard individual medley B-final,
Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) placed fourth, clocking in at 2:23.33 for five points.
Elsie Shumway (Murray, UT/Murray) recorded her personal best time, posting 27.02 in the 50-yard freestyle consolation finals.
The Saxons' A-team of
Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Anderegg,
Kyra Harry (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho) and Mott combined for 4:11.19 in the 400-yard medley relay to take fifth place.
Miriam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy),
Olivia Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell),
Courtney Cherricks (Chincoteague, VA/Big Spring) and Shumway finished with a time of 4:46.75 as the B-team.
AU will next compete in the time trials for prelims on Thursday, February 19 morning at 10:am with finals slated to start later in the evening at 5:30pm.
