Saxons Fall to Visiting Herons in Non-Conference Matchup

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team fell to the visiting William Smith Herons 181-114 in the McLane Natatorium on Friday night.

"We keep moving in the right direction. We had another great week of solid work in the pool and it showed this evening," Head Coach Brian Striker said. "We keep making improvements, not just in the competitive setting, but in practices and with how we handle ourselves throughout each day as a student-athlete. There is a little fatigue setting in as we are halfway through this stretch of Fall semester meets, but we are in a great place and I continue to be pleased with how well they are doing all things considered."

Despite the team loss, AU (0-3, 0-1 Empire 8) took home seven individual wins. They started off on the right foot in the 200-yard medley relay, with the A-team of Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Olivia Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), Kyra Harry (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho), and Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) securing the win at 1:57.12.

Share went on to continue her stellar start to the season as the reigning Empire 8 Swimmer of the Week. She won in the 50-back, 100-back, and 100-IM with respective times of 28.10, 1:01.06, and 1:03.09. The latter of the three times broke both a school and pool record for the second week in a row.

In addition to Share's wins, Harry won two more races in the 50-free and 100-free, with times of 26.07 and 57.17. Finally, Richeda secured the win from the fifth lane in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:14.97.

Ruby Kavanagh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) continued scoring points for AU in the diving well. She scored a 174.43 in the 3-meter and 190.73 in the 1-meter, with the 1-meter dive good enough for runner-up in the event.

The Saxons will continue their home cooking, next hosting a tri-meet against the University of Rochester and Fredonia on November 7 at 11 a.m. on Hall of Fame Weekend.
