WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team completed day two of the Empire 8 championship meet at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday.
After the day, AU sits in fifth place with 129 points.
Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) swam first for the Saxons, registering a time of 2:06.70 in the 200-yard freestyle consolation. In the following 100-yard butterfly, Alfred University saw
Kyra Harry (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho) notch the ninth fastest time in program history, clocking 1:02.44 in eighth place, while
Elsie Shumway (Murray, UT/Murray) delivered a personal best 1:08.25 in the consolation.
Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) delivered a school record and personal best in the 400-yard individual medley for both prelims and finals. Share broke the previous record by two seconds in the prelims with a time of 4:42.51, then went even faster in the finals, clocking 4:41.01 to shatter the record by a full three seconds. Share took the record from
Dylan Staniszewski '17 as the previous mark was a 4:44.86. In the consolation,
Alexandra Simmons (Danbury, CT/Danbury) finished in at 5:06.36 for second place.
On the diving board, the Saxons saw
Ruby Kavanagh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) take ninth place with a final score of 318.60 on the 1-meter.
AU finished the day with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay championship final, seeing an A-team of
Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area),
Miriam Kiragu (Gaborone, Botswana/Legae Academy), Shumway and Simmons clock a combined time of 1:48.44. The B-team of
Olivia Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell),
Shelby Baker (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo Central),
Courtney Cherricks (Chincoteague, VA/Big Spring) and
Chloe Basile (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) finished in at 1:51.45 for fifth place.
Alfred University will compete next in the time trials for prelims on Friday, February 20 morning at 10:00am with finals slated to begin later in the evening at 5:30pm.
