ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team narrowly fell to the visiting Nazareth Golden Flyers by the final score of 156-117.
Seven wins across the pool for the Saxons wasn't quite enough to push them over the line. Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took home four wins alone four AU, with the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.37), and the second-fastest in school history in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.25).
"We had a solid couple of weeks of training leading up to today and we knew it would be tough to perform," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "Our first meet coming out of break we are usually pretty flat. But today we were energetic, positive, and performed better than I expected!"
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) took home two individual victories plus a relay win. She was first in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.41, and in the 100-yard freestyle with a 57.13. Anderson and Share were alongside Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) and Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville) in the 200-yard medley relay. The four conquered the top of the podium, clocking in at 1:58.27.
Derry also finished second in the 200-yard IM with a 2:25.60, while Anderegg came second with a 1:16.78 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) added another podium finish in the 500-yard freestyle race, with a 5:58.42. In the diving pool, Ruby Kavanagh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) would win in the 3-meter dive with a score of 161.50.
