ALFRED, NY – Both Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) and Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) were named to the Empire 8 Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
 
Gilbert competed in the 800-meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University on Sunday. She finished the event with a time of 2:17.63, which topped her previous program record that she recorded during the 2023 season (2:18.24). Gilbert now owns three separate track & field records with Alfred University between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
 
Spila continued her impressive outdoor season with the Alfred University women's track & field team, who competed at Messiah University in a three-day outing this past week. Spila competed in the women's heptathlon, placing second with 4,068 points. Spila recorded 654 points after claiming victory in the women's long jump with 5.34 meters. Spila added an additional 429 points to her score from the women's javelin throw, placing third with 27.50 meters. Spila rounded out the heptathlon with top-five finishes in the women's 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash.
 
Spila now has seven Empire 8 Weekly Awards which ties her for sixth all-time with Miasia Hillman '15. Out of her seven, six have been through track & field with one coming from Spila's first-year season of women's basketball. All seven of Hillman's came from track & field. Spila is one away from tying former teammate, Ana Ion '23 and her eight as well as three-time All-American on the men's track & field team, Seth Spicer '18. Ion also was a member of the women's basketball team, earning five Rookie of the Week honors.
 
The duo was joined by Alfred University Mya Wells (San Ramon, CA/California) as the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week. Gilbert and Wells were also the Saxons of the Week on Monday.
