CORTLAND, NY – The Alfred University men's alpine skiing team competed at Labrador Mountain on Saturday and Sunday, February 17 and 18.
The Saxons were without indoor track & field athlete,
Kevin Voeglin for both days, as
Evan Sherwood (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) competed in Giant Slalom on Saturday and Slalom on Sunday. "Winter finally arrived, though, after a tough year dealing with warm less-than-ideal conditions so spirits were high," Head Coach
Bob Cilino '13 said. "Saturday welcomed us with a few inches of fresh snow by the morning and flurries and squalls as the day progressed through the Giant Slalom race. Evan was battling some health issues through the weekend but pushed through."
Sherwood's first run during Giant Slalom clocked in a time of 56.78 that placed him at 65
th place. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish his second run, leaving him as an unplaced racer and putting Alfred University at 12
th place as a team.
On Sunday, during Slalom, Sherwood DNF'd his first run and then hit a 1:06.32 finish on his second run that would have placed him 54
th.
The Saxons will next compete at the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25.
