FREDONIA, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team dropped a pair of meet results in a tri-meet at Fredonia on Saturday.
They were edged by Fredonia, 143-118 while dropping a 200-74 matchup with University of Rochester. "The women lost a hard fought battle with Fredonia today, we gave them everything we had available and I was proud of our efforts," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "We have been training pretty hard and I am encouraged by our results as we shift focus to the big mid-season invitational in three weeks."
Macie Francisco (Vestal, NY/Vestal) was the first to tally points with a first place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:12.03.
Cece Saltysiak (Bay Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor), although being swept by Rochester swimmers, swept Fredonia in the 100-yard backstroke with Saltysiak leading the way with a time of 1:06.64, followed by Anderson's 1:10.52.
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) picked up a nice finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, taking second overall with a time of 2:49.04, edging the Yellowjackets' second faster swimmer in the event.
Kamila Roman followed suit with a second place overall finish of her own with a time of 1:03.15 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Saxons closed out their day with a 200-yard freestyle relay win over Fredonia with a combined time of 1:53.24 from the team of
Erika Purdy (Syracuse, NY/Cicero North), Alexandra Simmons (Danbury, CT/Danbury), Eden Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and
Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville).
The Saxons will next look towards competing in a three-day meet at Ithaca College, starting Friday, December 2 at 5:00pm.
