ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team picked up their first Empire 8 Weekly Award of the season as
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Scanlan played a large role with the Saxons this past week, as the team won respective matchups against Penn State Altoona and Utica University.
Against Penn State Altoona, Scanlan dished an assist to
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) to get AU on the scoreboard in the first half. Later in the game, Scanlan scored her second goal of the season to extend the lead and eventually secure the 3-1 victory. Scanlan was responsible for a team-high seven shots with three being on goal.
This past weekend, Scanlan was credited with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Utica after finding the left side of the net in the 55th minute of action. She ended the game with a team-high five shots, two of which were on goal.
Scanlan was additionally named as Saxon of the Week alongside women's volleyball's
Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's).
Scanlan and the Saxons remain on the road this week, facing Ithaca College on Wednesday with the first half scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
