BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday evening at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.
After Ava Thayer (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) was fouled inside the penalty area, the Saxons turned to Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), who converted the ensuing penalty kick in the third minute to give Alfred University an early 1-0 lead. The goal marked the sixth of Khuns' collegiate career and her first of the fall season.
Roughly 12 minutes later, the Golden Eagles capitalized on a deflected ball that found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. Shortly after Brockport's goal, Isabelle Dennis (Livonia, NY/Livonia) put a free kick on frame, but the opposing goalkeeper made the save. In the 40th minute, Amber Bates (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) nearly regained the lead for the Saxons off a corner kick from Khuns, but Brockport was credited with a defensive save.
Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) recorded one save in the opening half, while the Alfred University defense successfully defended three Brockport corner kick opportunities to send the teams into halftime tied, 1-1.
Early in the second half, Brockport worked the ball down the right side before finding the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead. Aviana Petrizzo (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) recorded the lone Saxon shot of the second half, as Alfred University was unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.
Alfred University will return to action to face SUNY Poly at 1:00 PM.
