ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team fell in Empire 8 action to visiting SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday evening from Yunevich Stadium, 1-0.
The Saxons (2-9-3, 1-6-1 Empire 8) gave up the deciding goal in the 32
nd minute of play when a long ball from a Knights' (7-3-3, 5-1-2 Empire 8) bounced up and over
Lauren Mott's (Cortland, NY/Cortland) gloves. Mott made three saves in the first half and another six in the second half as her and her defense faced a grand total of 35 Geneseo shots on the evening, keeping the lead within reach.
Near the end of the first half, Geneseo had two opportunities to up the lead off of corner kicks with less than a minute remaining. The first corner attempt resulted in the Saxons getting last touch before going back out of bounds, setting up another Knight corner. This one, as time was expiring, resulted in a shot that was taken from behind Mott, looking for the roll into the net, but
Zoey Wolf (Holley, NY/Holley) recorded a defensive save as she cleared it and prevented a two-goal halftime deficit.
The Saxons fired off six shots with five in the second half and three on target. Leading the offensive efforts for AU was Wolf who had two shots and one of them being on goal.
Sydney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and
Aviana Petrizzo (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) each had a shot reach the Knights' keeper.
The Saxons will next remain at home in Yunevich Stadium as they host Keuka College on Saturday, October 17 at 6:00pm in Empire 8 action.
