ALFRED, NY – Sophomore
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) was selected as the Empire 8 Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Durso won the pentathlon at the Utica College Indoor Invitational on Saturday with a personal best score of 2,397 points. Her top score was in the high jump with 655 points coming from her collegiate best height of 1.53m. She then had three events in the 400-point range, scoring 490 points in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.29. She had 442 points in the shot put with a toss of 8.66m and 422 points in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:54.12. Durso rounded out her pentathlon win with 388 points from the long jump with a vault of 4.34m.
She is near the Alfred University school record in the pentathlon of 2,693 points held by
Jen Brewer in 1999.
Durso was also named a Saxon of the Week along with men's track& field's
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) on Monday. The Saxons will next be in action in 2022 as they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, January 15.
