ALFRED, NY – Senior Abigail Austin (Hornell, NY/Hornell) of the Alfred University women's soccer team became the fourth Saxon player to be named on the Empire 8 Players of the Week listings as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro on Monday afternoon.
 
Austin was named the Offensive Player of the Week, joining Jacey Palmgree (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Kayla Silverstein (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Katline Cartwright (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) who have all been on the weekly awards with Palmgreen being on the forms twice.
 
Austin had a four-goal week to help the Saxons go 1-1. She recorded her first collegiate hat-trick in a 6-0 sweep of Medaille College, helping the Saxons keep the Mavericks to zero shots in the game. She scored the opening goal of the game to be credited with the game-winner as she fired seven shots on goal in total. Austin topped off the week with a goal in a 4-3 overtime loss to Utica College.
 
Austin was also named a Saxon of the Week alongside women's volleyball's Sarah Raeman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) as she also garnered the title of Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday.
 
The Saxons will next play their final non-conference match-up as they host Ithaca College on Tuesday, October 5 at 7:00pm.
