ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team traveled to Nazareth College on Friday evening for dual-meet action but fell, 156-72 against the defending Empire 8 champions.
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) got things started for AU as she won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:19.54, defeating Nazareth's
Caroline Coleman and her time of 10:21.28.
"This was a great meet, especially away on a Friday night in a 25m pool, which we are not accustomed to," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "We showed a great deal of growth and improvement since the meet two weeks ago. Being a young team, it is encouraging to see the progress, and in tune with previous meet comments, I am excited for each forthcoming meet!"
Macie Francisco (Vestal, NY/Vestal) followed Vallely in the 800-meters with a time of 10:47.63, good enough for third place, out-touching the wall against
Maura Miller of Naz and her time of 10:48.37.
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central) took second in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:45.13, just a few events after the 800.
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished third in the 1-meter diving and
Shaelyn McClaughry (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) also took third, being edged out by less than a second in the 100-meter butterfly, swimming a 1:18.81.
Vallely added a second place finish to her meet performance on Friday as she finished with a time of 5:00.44 in the 400-meter freestyle.
The Saxons will next host University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Friday, November 5 at 5:00pm in the McLane Natatorium.
