ALFRED, N.Y. – It was a dominating performance in the pool for the Alfred University women's swimming and diving teams, as the Saxons defeated Pitt-Bradford by a 95-27 score for their first victory of the season, from McLane Natatorium Friday evening.
Alfred improves to 1-3 on the season, while Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-1.
The women won all of its non-exhibition events on the way to a resounding victory. The 200-yard medley relay team of
Rachel Flaherty (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug),
Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South),
Caitlin Behr (Long Beach Island, N.J./Southern Regional), and
Alexis Deluca (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) finished their race in a time of 2:05.70.
Behr also picked up a pair of individual victories. She won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:13.21, while also finishing the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.54. Guariglia picked up a narrow victory in the 50-yard freestyle, touching first in a time of 27.35. She barely finished ahead of teammate
Ellie Johnson (Sturgeon Bay, Wisc./Sturgeon Bay), who swam in 27.87. Deluca also won by a slightly narrow margin, winning the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:30.24, just ahead of Flaherty. Flaherty did earn an individual victory, touching first by a wide margin in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.26). Johnson also won, touching first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.20.
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) completed the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming in a time of 11:42.63.
On the diving boards,
Cassandra Fritzke (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) completed the 1-meter dive with a 6-dive score of 124.58.
Courtney Sisson (Olean, N.Y./Olean) finished in a score of 114.83. On the 3-meter platform, Sisson earned an exhibition score of 116.77.
The Saxons jump right back into the pool on Saturday, hosting Fredonia State and the University of Rochester in a tri-meet from McLane Natatorium. The diving portion will begin at 11 a.m., with the rest of the meet starting at 1 p.m.
