Sisson and Serotta Earn Multiple First-Place Wins in Loss at William Smith

Results

GENEVA, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team fell on the road at William Smith College on Saturday afternoon, 81.5, 129.5.

The Saxons were led by wins from the 200-yard medley relay team, Courtney Sisson (Olean, NY/Olean) in both diving events and Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) in the 100-yard backstroke.

The 200 medley relay team of Rachel Flaherty (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug), Alexis Deluca (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), Serotta and Ellie Johnson (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sturgeon Bay) opened the meet up with a time of 2:02.71, topping William Smith by almost a full, six seconds. Serotta then won the 100 back with a time of 1:01.63, edging William Smith's top swimmer's time of 1:01.99. Sisson won both diving events, uncontested as she scored a 111.45 on the 1-meter and a 116.30 on the 3-meter board.

"We were certainly short-handed this weekend.  I thought They addressed the challenge as best they could. It's hard to compare our results from last night to today because of the different racing courses, but I believe we had a pretty good day today coming off the meet last night," Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "When we created the schedule, I put a few back-to-back meet weekends together to fain some insight as to what we were made of mentally and physically. I am a firm believer that these tough weekends will build the character and experience we need to be successful at our Championships in February."

The Saxons saw multiple second place finishes as Serotta got one in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:25.93. Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) picked up a pair of second places in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:41.11) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.91). Deluca also tabbed a second place finish in the 500-yard free with a 5:53.51.

Caitlin Behr (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional) raced to a 1:00.20 finish in the 100-yard free to take her second place finish and then teamed with Cassidy Jeche (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), Sisson and Vallely to finish second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:53.41.

The Saxon will next host the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Friday, November 8 for a 6 p.m. meet start.
