ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team opened its home schedule with a dual meet against Nazareth College that resulted in a 120-165 loss to the Golden Flyers on Friday evening in Lebohner Pool.
Â
"The first-year women have had an immediate impact and you were able to see that a lot tonight in terms of our depth," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "We're still trying to build up our sprinters that we've lost the past few years and this first-year group is going to be strong there."
Â
Sophomore
Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was the first Saxon to pick up an individual victory as she marked a 1:02.63 in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time was almost a full three seconds faster than the rest of the lanes.
Â
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was almost the second AU Student-Athlete to pick up a win as she was edged on the 3-meter diving board. She scored a 226.30 while Nazareth's
Taylor Woltz had a 227.85. However, Serotta would be the next Saxon victory on the board as she swam a 2:16.82 in the 200-back. Just like the 100 and her near three-second margin over the second place swimmer, Serotta almost doubled that with a near six-second margin of victory over the runner-up. That runner-up, was a fellow Saxon as first-year
Rachel Flaherty (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) swam a 2:23.22 to out-finish
Erin Spina of the Golden Flyers.
Â
Gina Artieri (Lockport, NY/Lockport) earned a close win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:51.04. She topped Nazareth's Audrey Quinn and her 5:54.60 timing. In the very next event for the women on Friday, Serotta picked up her third victory with a time of 1:04.12 in the 100-yard butterfly, ousting Nazareth's
Amanda Foster and her 1:04.85.
Â
The Saxons will next head to Bradford, PA to face the Panthers of University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Friday, November 2 at 5PM.
