ALFRED, NY -- Junior freestyler
Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) of the Alfred University women's swimming and diving team earned Empire 8 Athlete of the Week honors for her performance last week.
Staniszewski had a big week in the pool. The Saxons competed in three dual matches within four days where Staniszewski piled up seven first place wins. She won all three of her events against Le Moyne and Wells on Wednesday, taking first in the 1,000 Freestyle (11:16.33), the 200 Freestyle (2:02.34) and the 500 Freestyle (5:25.21). Staniszewski then turned around after one day off of competing and won the 200 Individual Medley against Utica (2:16.68) and well as the 100 Freestyle (56.04). She also teamed with
Megan Steen (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth),
Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) and
Elizabeth Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) for a win in the 200 Medley Relay (2:02.65). Staniszewski ended the week with a win the 500 Freestyle at Hartwick (5:25.61).
She added three second place finishes in the 200 Free (1:59.99), the 100 Free (56.04) and the 200 Free Relay (1:48.57) after only a night's rest and a bus ride.
Staniszewski and the rest of the Saxons are back to work in order to prepare for their final dual meet of the season at Ithaca College on Saturday, January 23 at 1:00 pm before looking forward to the Empire 8 Conference Championships/UNYSCSA Championships in mid-February.
