Lady Saxons overwhelm Pioneers in E8 matchup, 75-66

Box Score UTICA, NY- The Alfred University women's basketball team handed Utica College a 75-66 loss, on the road, Friday evening in conference play. The win moves the Lady Saxons to 6-12 (1-6 Empire 8) overall for the season.

Alfred headed into the break ahead of Utica, 36-30, thanks to quick offensive starts from junior guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), with 10 points, and freshman guard Kathryn Polletta (Ossining, NY/Ossining), with eight points.

AU never trailed in the second half. For the game, Utica outrebounded AU, 50-43, but was outshot from the field (40 percent compared to 35 percent), from beyond the arc (52 percent compared to 25 percent), and from the free-throw line (80 percent compared to 59 percent).

Cleary finished with a team-high 21 points, shooting seven-of-12 from the field, and five-for-eight from beyond the arc. Polletta and junior guard Emiliea Harrison (Conesus, NY/Dansville) added 11 and nine points each. Junior forward Lyndsay Drummond (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg) and freshman forward Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) each grabbed six and eight rebounds.

Alfred faces off against Elmira College on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m.
