Senior Seth Spicer did it again in the decathlon! He came from behind after day one of the large, Division II Kutztown University Mondschein Multi Invitational to win it all on Thursday and Friday. Spicer won the Maroon division with a new Alfred University school record of 6,598 points. His point total also eclipsed all of the Division I, II and III competitors in the Gold division as he beat everyone by 588 points or more. Spicer was in third after the first day with three personal bests. He PR’d in the 100-meter dash with a new time of 11.66. He followed with a new personal best distance in the shot put with a toss of 13.15m and then rounded out with a new height for outdoor high jump of 1.86m. Spicer’s 400-meter dash time of 50.74 was just 0.21 seconds off of breaking another personal best. On day two, Spicer broke his personal ‘high’ in the pole vault with a new outdoor mark of 4.05m despite having injured his throwing hand when a pole snapped in half during warmups. Spicer broke his personal record in the discus throw with a toss of 38.88m as well as he went on to win both events. He finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.55. His highest-scoring event of the day was his 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01 for 732 points whereas his 400 was his top mark of 783 points.
