BROCKPORT, NY / LEWISBURG, PA - The Alfred University women's track & field teams traveled to the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational on Sunday and spent two days at the Bison Classic, hosted by Bucknell University on Friday and Saturday.
Meridian Bremel (Reading, VT/Woodstock Union) broke the Alfred University school record in the discus throw. In her first attempt, Bremel threw her personal best mark of 37.56m (123'-3"), breaking her own record which she set last outdoor season. Bremel was joined by teammate
Briana Dorr (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) who placed 16th with a throw of 30.34m (99'-6").
Shansanique Pollack (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) took 19th place with her mark of 28.90m (94'-10").
Paula Altschaft (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) threw 18.09m (59'-4") and
Sienna Smalt (Bath, NY/Avoca) marked 11.70m (38'-5").
The Saxons continued to find success in the open hammer throw. Bremel won that portion of hammer with another personal best throw marking 40.66m (133'-5"). Dorr threw 27.84m (91'-4") to take 17th place and Altschaft came in 22nd place with 18.72m (61'-5").
In the 400-meter hurdles, a sixth place finish was earned by
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville). She crossed the finish line in a time of 1:09.47.
Nyah Allen (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) also raced in the hurdles and took 12th place with a time of 1:11.88.
Navigating the water jump,
Vivian Crane (Branchport, NY/Avoca) competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Crane finished in eighth place with a time of 15:59.57.
Dorr competed in the shot put and claimed a ninth place finish with her best mark at 10.52m (34'-6.25"). Dorr was accompanied by
Courtney Cherricks (Chincoteague, VA/Big Spring) who threw 6.30m (20'-8"). Cherricks also competed in the javelin, ranking 28th with a mark of 16.01m (52'-6").
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) raced the 400-meter dash and placed 11th with a time of 1:02.83.
Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) ranked 19th at 1:10.29. Rainville and Ribble also competed in the 200-meter dash with Allen. Rainville led the Saxons placing 17th with a time of 27.94, followed by Allen in 30th with 29.35 and Ribble with 32.06 for 47th place.
"It was a good weekend for the Saxons. I am very proud of how everyone stepped up these past few days," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "With several more weeks left before championships, we just need to focus on the day-to-day actions. If we continue to put together weeks like this, the results will continue to flow."
Natalya Ryckman (New Eagle, PA/Ringgold) represented the Saxons at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday April 13th at Bucknell University. She competed in the hammer throw, where her top mark was 42.56m (139'-7") to place her 27th overall.
"This weekend was a great learning experience for the athletes," Assistant Head Coach
Sierra Wilson '22 said. "Whether it was focusing on a new race strategy, or adapting to a different environment, this meet was a great atmosphere to be in."
The Saxons will next head to Bethlehem, PA for a two-day meet at Moravian University on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18 with Friday's meet starting at 1:00pm and Saturday's starting at 10:00am.
