Relays Highlight Saxons’ Stay at Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished seventh during the 2026 Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

The Saxons defeated Hartwick College and Russell Sage College during the two-day event. All of the points for AU were scored by its two relays, the distance medley relay on Friday and the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday.

Both relays were ran by the same four Saxons. Nyah Allen (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), Rain Newton (Phelps, NY/Midlakes), Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) and Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) teamed up for both days. The group posted a time of 14:42.57 in the DMR ahead of Hartwick's 14:54.71 to take seventh place on Friday. They then just crossed the finish line ahead of the Gators to take seventh on Saturday, closing out the championship events when the 4x400-meter effort resulted in another seventh place finish with a time of 4:35.33. Sage posted a time of 4:35.47 as the Saxons held off the come-from-behind upset.

The majority of the Saxon members will next look towards the outdoor portion of the school year.
