ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team returned from winter break with a close loss at Nazareth 151-125.
"It was good to get back into competition mode today," Head Coach
Brian Striker '00 said. The divers were consistent and there was a noticeable improvements in their lists; the scores were solid. It is hard to gauge swimming times, as we only swim short course meters at Nazareth every other year, but I thought we looked great. We have a couple of hard meets next week, so it was nice to see that we are starting the semester off on a good note!"
Liv Richeda (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) opened the afternoon with a win for AU in the 800-meter freestyle, clocking in over 20 seconds ahead of second place at 11:06.91.
Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) and
Courtney Cherricks (Chincoteague, VA/Big Spring) followed suit with a 1-2 finish in the 50-meter free with respective times of 31.98 and 36.55.
Share took a second win in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:09.28, and a third in the 200-IM at 2:36.38.
Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) wrapped up wins in the 50-breast and 100-breast with a 37.60 and 1:21.85, respectively. In the diving well,
Ruby Kavanagh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) took home silver in the 1-meter dive with a score of 192.05.
Alfred University will continue the spring semester schedule of competitions on the road at SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
