YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Alfred University women's track & field team ended its two-day weekend competition on Saturday evening from the Youngstown State University Mid-Major Invitational.
Saturday featured the majority of the weekend's competition. Multiple Saxons ran for personal records while the highlight was in the final event of the day. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac),
Nyah Allen (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen),
Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) and
Rain Newton (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) finished 14
th with a time of 4:40.64. "The competition this weekend was a much bigger event than our team was used to but they handled it quite well," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "We had some great performances and efforts both yesterday and today as we now are one month away from the Empire 8 championships."
In individual events, Allen broke her 800-meter run PR by over six seconds, running a 2:35.78. All four first-year one-mile Saxon runners hit personal bests on Saturday as well. Ribble posted the top time of 6:12.12. Newton followed with a 6:25.18, ahead of
Morgan Brinkmann (Manchester, MO/Parkway South) and her time of 6:42.82 and
Vivian Crane (Branchport, NY/Avoca) and her time of 7:38.34.
The top individual finishes for the Saxons on Saturday came from the field events as both
Natalya Ryckman (New Eagle, PA/Ringgold) and
Meridian Bremel (Reading, VT/Woodstock Union) threw in the shot put. Ryckman tossed her best throw of the day at 9.66m (31'-8.5") for 30
th place, while Bremel was close by, reaching 9.27m (30'-5") in 37
th place.
The Saxons will next travel to Susquehanna University for a Friday meet on February 6 at 4:00pm.
