NEW WILMINGTON, PA – The Alfred University men's track & field team traveled to the Westminster College Invitational on Saturday, April 12th.
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA / Springfield Township) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.12m (46'-4"). Teammates
Daimel Fowler (Baldwinsville, NY / Baker) and
Gabe Simone (Acton, MA / Landmark) competed in the shot put later that day. Fowler took 15th place overall with a 12.48m (40'-11.25") mark. Simone threw a best attempt of 8.73 meters (28'-7.75").
Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY / Kenmore West) took a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash. Hodges crossed the finish line at 51.45 seconds which was the sixth fastest in his section.
Jayden Noel (Brooklyn, NY / Automotive),
Kaden Funabashi (Portland, OR / Grant) and
Kevin Voegelin (Allegany, NY / Allegany-Limestone) also competed in the 400-meter dash. Noel finished sixth in his section and placed 20th overall with a time of 55.27 seconds. Funabashi and Voegelin competed in the same section where they finished first and third, respectively. Funabashi ran his race in 55.50 seconds while Voegelin was close behind at 56.28 seconds.
In the 800-meter run,
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY / Potsdam Central) claimed first in his section with a time of 2:01.08, ranking him ninth overall. Teammates
Nick Erickson (Falconer, NY / Falconer Central) and
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY / Rush-Henrietta) raced in the same section, crossing the line just seconds apart. Erickson finished with a time of 2:19.81 followed by Annlee at 2:20.65.
A 10th place finish by
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY / Avoca) who raced amongst 56 competitors in the 1500-meter run. He finished fourth in his section with a time of 4:13.75.
The Saxons put up impressive times in the 100-meter dash.
Khamani Hunter Sr (Poughkeepsie, NY / FDR) placed 11
th out of 54 athletes while posting an 11.38 second finish.
Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Walter Panas) joined Hunter in the event where he placed 19
th at 11.60 seconds. In 36
th place was
Steve Cordell Hoskins III (Buffalo, NY / St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) with a 12.01 second finish.
The 200-meter dash was just as competitive for the Saxons. In 11
th place, Hunter led the Saxons as he crossed the finish line at 22.89 seconds.
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY / DeWitt Clinton) took 13
th with a time of 23.04 seconds. The 19
th fastest time of 23.41 seconds was run by Ciamarra. Voegelin finished with 24.93 seconds on the clock, closely followed by Funabashi at a time of 25.04 seconds.
Yuner Sesmas (Apollo, PA / Kiski Area) raced the 5000-meter run early on Saturday. Sesmas crossed the finish line at a personal best time of 16:43.24 for an overall rank of 21st.
Damian Brown (Homer, NY / Homer) and
Jeremiah Ford (Arkport, NY Alfred-Almond) ran in their section of the race later that day. Brown came through with a time of 17:50.30 followed by Ford just behind him at 18:09.06 for 31st and 32nd place, respectively.
The 4x100-meter relay team scored fifth place overall with an astonishing time of 43.88 seconds. The order of runners was as follows: Hunter, Ciamarra, Hoskins and Peters.
"The men did a terrific job preparing themselves to compete in the cold, and against some great competition," Assistant Head Coach
Sierra Wilson remarked. "As we start to head into the postseason, the performances are coming together, and I am excited to see what they can accomplish over the next few weeks."
"Cold weather aside, the team had some great performances today," Graduate Assistant
Emma Anderson said. "It's fantastic to see athletes believe in their training and go after personal bests, and we can see that their sustained efforts are paying off. It should be an exciting second half of the season!"
The Saxons will next compete at Alfred State College on Friday, April 18th at 4:00 PM for a Saxon for Saxon competition.
