UTICA, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished seventh on the final day of the Empire 8 Indoor Championships at Utica University on Saturday.
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) found herself on the podium again the day after breaking the school record to earn fourth overall in the pentathlon. She registered another fourth-place finish in the final of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51. Spila finished fourth at 9.48 during the prelims of the event.
Spila also ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay. Joining her were teammates Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac), Alivia Kocan (Hornell, NY/Arkport Central), and Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville). The Saxons finished second in their heat and sixth overall on a time of 4:19.93.
"There were some very nice performances on day two," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "A time or a distance is not the only indicator of performance though. Championships include a more in-depth strategy and a sharp mental focus. Both of which requires practice and experience. I am very happy that these ladies are gaining this experience now, as it will be a huge benefit for them next time they are in the same situation. With the regular season coming to a close, we will shift into outdoor season where we have two months until the next T&F E8 Championships."
Townsend competed in the 800-meter dash where she ran a personal best time of 2:31.15. McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) took part in the 3000-meter run, just seconds off of matching her PR at 11:12.30. Natalya Ryckman (New Eagle, PA/Ringgold) threw for 10.90m (35'-9.25") in the weight throw.
