QUEENSBURY, NY -- The Alfred University men's and women's alpine skiing teams took to the slopes at West Mountain for the second weekend this season.
"We had a skeleton crew with all three track athletes away at a meet and another staying back this weekend," Head Coach
Bob Cilino '13 said. "We battled conditions and ourselves, still pushing for finishing four races over a race weekend and practicing hard to get there."
Sophia Lazarenko (Buffalo, NY/Park School of Buffalo) was the lone women's finisher for the Saxons across the weekend. On Saturday's giant slalom course, she came home with a combined time of 3:38.25. Sunday's blistery and snowy made conditions tough, only allowing one slalom run - where she clocked in at 2:07.50.
On the men's side, first-year skier
Esa Jack Connelly (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) led the line for Alfred University. His combined time in Saturday's giant slalom was a 2:24.48, while Sunday's lone run saw him finish with a time of 1:06.54.
Only one more regular season weekend is on the docket at Labrador Mountain, also for the second time this season. The giant slalom on Saturday, February 15, and slalom on Sunday, February 16 get underway at 9:30 a.m.
