TRUXTON, NY -- The Alfred University men's and women's alpine skiing team took to the slopes at Labrador Mountain for the second time this season.

Both the men and women's sides competed in the giant slalom on Saturday, and were slated to race the slalom course in the regular season finale on Sunday. But inclement weather forced the event to be canceled.

"It's sad because we prepped for this last race of the season to be a costume race and it was going to be really fun, but that's the way cards were dealt today," Head Coach Bob Cilino '13 said. "Very proud of the races yesterday, we had some good runs across the board. Now we're going to train hard for regionals next weekend."

Esa Jack Connelly (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) led the way for the men. His first run nearly cracked the top-20 in speed, coming in with a time of 45.75. He finished overall with a 1:33.43. Kevin Voegelin (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) wasn't far behind, where his first run clocked in at 53.65. His total time was a 1:49.09, while Garrett Farabaugh (Abington, PA/Abington Senior) wrapped up with a 2:02.84.

On the women's side, Sophia Lazarenko (Buffalo, NY/Park School of Buffalo) was the lone participant for the second straight weekend. She clocked in at 2:24.24 to wrap up her first regular-season of skiing.

One final weekend is all that's left for the alpine skiing season, coming next at the USCSA Mideast Regional Championships hosted at Bristol Mountain. The races both on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23 get underway at 9:30 a.m.
