QUEENSBURY, NY -- The Alfred University men's alpine skiing team opened its season with a weekend at West Mountain.
On Saturday, the giant slalom tested the three Saxons participants.
Kevin Voegelin (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led the way, improving his second run by over three seconds to finish with a combined time of 3:00.01.
Garrett Farabaugh (Abington, PA/Abington Senior) improved his own second run by over five seconds to finish a combined 3:30.11, with both competing just hours after competing at Utica University for the Alfred University track & field team.
The two also competed in Sunday's slalom, with Voegelin snagging a combined time of 3:01.02, while Farabaugh would clock in with a 4:01.79. In his first collegiate competition,
Esa Jack Connelly (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) unfortunately wouldn't finish with a time on either day.
He and the rest of the team will look for a bounce-back next weekend, competing in the slalom at Labrador Mountain on Saturday and in the giant slalom at Greek Peak Resort on Sunday. Both competitions get underway at 9:30 a.m.
