BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team was back in action at the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational on Saturday.
"It was a solid weekend across the board for our whole squad," assistant coach
David Brannigan said. "The work that was put in the last few months is showing which is great. We still have a couple competitions left as we march on and prepare for our E8 conference meet. Very proud of the team and what we are building. The best is yet to come!"
The highlight of the meet was
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) who broke her own indoor record again in the pentathlon with a score of 3,024 points. Her previous record was 2,978 points, which she registered a season ago. Spila won the shot put on a personal best 10.16m throw (33'-4"). She also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.57 and high jump on a 1.47m leap (4'-9.75"). Spila earned a high score of 794 points in the 60-meter hurdles.
Alivia Kocan (Hornell, NY/Arkport Central) competed in the 1000-meter run for the first time in her career. She crossed the finish line for fifth on a time of 3:29.60.
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) also ran a new event, representing the Saxons in the 600-meter dash. She posted second in her heat and sixth overall at 1:52.26.
"It was a good weekend for the Saxons," head coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "We had some really solid performances and the team is progressing well. We still have to put some work in over the next few weeks before the Empire 8 Championships at the end of the month."
Alfred University will travel to Nazareth University for the DIII Elite Meet on February 14-15.
