HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team saw seven Saxons place in the top three during its final regular season indoor meet at the Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Houghton University on Saturday.
"We traveled to Houghton today with a smaller group than normal," Graduate Assistant Coach
Kevin Flint said. "But the Saxons still delivered an impressive showing. It was great to see multiple new PRs and some event winners as well. We'll look to carry this momentum forward to Empire 8's next week."
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville) and
Octavia Fred (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) raced in the 300-meter dash for the first time in their careers. Townsend claimed first with a time of 46.71, while Fred came behind in second at 50.29.
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) won the high jump for the first time on a 1.45m jump (4'-9").
Natalya Ryckman (New Eagle, PA/Ringgold) registered back-to-back third place finishes and personal bests in two events. She qualified for the Empire 8 Championships during the weight throw with a 12.35m throw (40'-6.25"). Ryckman also earned a time of 10.54 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Meridian Bremel (Reading, VT/ Woodstock Union) threw for 9.98m (32'-9") to claim third in the shot put for the first time in her career.
Spila, Townsend, Fred and Ryckman competed together in the 4x200-meter relay, earning second at 1:55.23.
Alfred University prepares for the E8 Championship set to take place at Utica University on February 28-March 1.
