ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School) was named the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week on Monday morning.
Abdallatif has now competed for three weeks as a collegiate athlete and has earned weekly recognition from the Empire 8 each of those three weeks.
Abdallatif helped the Saxons pick up a statement win over the Statesmen of Hobart College on Friday evening, winning 226-46 on the road and, continues to break pool records. He now owns the Bristol Pool record in the 100-yard backstroke and is part of the pool record in the 200-yard medley relay. He teamed with
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Seif Asaad (Cairo, Egypt/Stanford) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) to break the pool record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:37.17. He then went on to break the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.28. Abdallatif now owns six pool records and two school records. On Friday, he was a perfect 4-for-4, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.54 and the 200-yard freestyle relay, teaming with
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area),
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) and Striker for a time of 1:29.30.
Abdallatif was joined in the Empire 8 listings by
Isabelle Dennis (Livonia, NY/Livonia) as the Empire 8 Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
